Moment-to-Moment Dial Testing
When it comes to moment-to-moment dial testing, Mercury’s media testing capabilities leave all others behind — in terms of ease of use, presentation quality, ratings precision and real-time reporting. We test more media each week than most test in a year.
Whether testing TV commercials, radio spots, on-air appearances, debates, or any other video or audio content – whether finished video, rough-cut, “animatic” or animated productions – Mercury’s video display technology features:
- Dynamic video scaling for optimal viewing on any display
- Auto-training experience of respondents
- Easy interface and automatic “keep-rating” reminders
- Programmable ratings scales
- Optional “Hot-Button” critical moment identification
- Advanced security technology
As surveys are fielding, dial-test rating results are available on Mercury’s Analytics Workbench, instantly visualized overall or among any audience segments you define, with a variety of in-depth analytic displays that allow you to pin-point the precise moments of strength or weakness, even moments of polarization, overall or within each audience segment of interest.
And when you’ve created that perfect dial-test analysis display that identifies the key issues you wish to show others, you can download the display as an MP4 file to embed in your PowerPoint or place online.

Full Feature List
Auto Training of Respondents
An interactive training capability is available that shows and teaches respondents how to rate an audio or video clip in under 60 seconds.
Programmable Ratings Scales
The ratings scale is programmable so some respondents could rate how much they like or don't like what they are watching while others rate how much they trust what they are watching.
Optimal Viewing Quality
Videos are presented in the same relative size on every screen so that each respondent enjoys a similar viewing experience, regardless of whether a screen is low or high resolution.
Keep Rating Reminder
Respondents are reminded automatically to keep rating if they are idle for too long, a timing parameter that is also programmable.
Optional hot-buttons can be defined that allow respondents to also indicate when something critical to understand occurs, such as when a respondent would "change the channel" or "buy the product".
While no security technology is fool-proof, Mercury utilizes proprietary security technology that will prevent almost all respondents from being able to record the video.
Real-time Dial-Test Visualization and Analytics
As the survey is fielding, highly visual dial-test results are available at the Analytics Workbench, that identify the precise moments of strength and weakness, among any audience segments you define - even moments of polarization. Advanced analytics provide real-time quantitative analysis of video ratings as well.
